Environmentally Friendly Rentco Fleet

The latest addition to the ever-growing Rentco fleet is the new Volvo FH series trucks that are fitted with state-of-the-art environmentally friendly carbon neutralizers, otherwise known as the Volvo Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.

The SCR system consists of an Ad Blue tank positioned next to the standard diesel tank found in many Volvo trucks. Attached is an Ad Blue pump, an injector unit and an SCR catalytic converter which means the diesel engine is not actually involved in the neutralization process, however, delivers heat for optimal combustion levels. The liquid Ad Blue is injected into the exhaust gases in the form of a finely atomized spray that is measured out to ensure a correct amount for each operating condition.

AdBlue liquid consists of urea and water in which the heat from the exhaust system converts the urea into ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2).


It is the ammonia that is the active substance and the main ingredient in the process undertaken in the SCRsystem. In the SCR process, the nitrogen oxides (NOx) are converted into nitrogen gas (N2)and water vapour (h2o) which are both natural ingredients in the air that we breathe.
